Israel : 25,000 people attend protests rallies in Tel Aviv, Kyriat Shmona and Arabeh

Around 20,000 demonstrators participated in a silent march in Tel Aviv on Saturday night to protest the high cost of living in Israel. The march, which featured the theme there is no individual security unless social rights are secure, began at Habima Square and ended at the Charles Clore Park near the Tel Aviv boardwalk.

At the beginning of the march, disputes still erupted between right wing racists participants, with the help of the police protection, over the deadly escalation in the south. Hundreds of Hadash (Democratic Front for Peace and Equality – Communist Party of Israel) activists waved red flags and chanted "Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies" and were greeted with calls of "traitors" by the right wing racists. A Hadash activist said journalists that he did not see a problem with combined political messages at a cost-of-living protest.

When the march reaches Charles Clore Gardens on Tel Aviv’s beachfront, the racists showed up again during a speech of an Arab speaker : The General Secretary of Hadash in Taybe, Dr. Zuheir Tibi. After heckling Dr. Tibi for 10 minutes, the crowd finally rose from their seats on the grass and physically shoved the racists aside, all the while chanting “Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies" !

Another cost-of-living demonstration was held in Arabeh by Hadash, where hundreds participated, among them : the Communist Party General Secretary, Muhammad Nafa’h ; Hadash Secretary, Ayman Odeh and MKs Muhammad Barakeh, Dov Khenin, Hanna Sweid and Afo Agbaryie.

A third rally was held on Saturday night in Kiryat Shmona, where about 1,000 people participated. Organizers said that the demonstration was held under the banner of "A strong and united society can stand up to any security challenge". Due to the deadly escalation in the south, organizers decided there would be no chants or use of megaphones.
